Susan is a native to Wisconsin and is currently based out of Neenah, Wisconsin.
She has had a fascination with art since she was able to draw with a crayon at about 3 or 4 years of age. She is primarily self taught, but admits to having studied under other successful artists on occasion. Her greatest teacher she feels, is the observation of nature and her surroundings. Susan has also learned a great deal from reading, and from studying work of other artists.
She has 30+ years of artistic painting experience, and has been juried into many shows and exhibitions. One of her works “Afternoon Ritual” was a finalist in the 2006 Artist Magazine art competition. In 2008 her painting “Seaside Comrades” took 2nd place in watermedia in the Jack Richeson International art competition. Also in 2008 she was also honored by having her painting “Summer Splash” juried into the 2008 Transparent Watercolor Society of America exhibition held at the Bloomington Art Center in Bloomington, MN. Then again in 2009 she was honored to have her painting, “Fountain Frolic” juried into the Transparent Watercolor Society of America exhibition. Out of 900 works, only 85 were chosen for the exhibition.
Susan currently offers watercolor classes at the Waupaca Community Arts Center and is very excited to be working with such a great group of people. She offers classes in primarily portrait and floral subject matter but may offer others as well. She teaches the watercolor glazing method, building depth and interest in the painting by layers.
If you are interested in sharpening your watercolor skills, check with the art center as to next availability.
